Upgrading Connections
To continue to produce the best in contemporary theatre and to ensure the best experience for audiences, The Studio Theatre has launched Upgrading Connections. Through technology upgrades, facility improvements and a green initiative promoting eco-efficiency, this $2.5 million campaign will maintain the highest quality production standards for the Studio’s artistic work, ensure efficient management and reduce environmental impact.
Technology Upgrades
Database: The Studio Theatre has switched to Tessitura, a database system designed specifically for not-for-profit performing arts organizations. This fully integrated database will handle all core box office, fundraising, marketing, subscription and administrative functions and will increase efficiency for both audiences and staff.
Website Redesign: The Studio Theatre’s new website reflects the contemporary nature of the organization—making it easier to purchases tickets online and presenting information in a clean, accessible way.
Phone System Upgrade: A new phone system will ensure greater efficiency in the administration of the Theatre, preventing dropped calls, missed deadlines and a backlog of work.
Theatre Technology and Structural Enhancements
As the vision of Studio artists has developed in relation to newly available technologies, it is important to update the theatres to meet artistic demands.
The Mead Theatre: The Mead Theatre renovation will replace the carpeting, step lights and 20-year-old risers. Built to enhance the audience’s view of the stage, the old risers were worn, damaged and creaking. This renovation will be labor- and time-intensive, requiring a vacant theatre for three months. The Theatre will re-open in spring 2010.
The Metheny Theatre: The Metheny Theatre renovation will improve access to existing lights via the grid and catwalk, and will update the electrical wiring of the theatre to ensure energy efficiency and safety.
Stage 4: Improvements to the raw, flexible Stage 4 will replenish the inventory of risers and dimmers, offering expanded opportunities for set, lighting and sound design.
Environmental Green Initiative
The Studio Theatre is committed to reducing its environmental impact and ensuring a sustainable future. Upgrading Connections includes a “green” component that helps to achieve these goals by saving energy, increasing recycling efforts and reducing waste. Studio Board and staff have formed “Green Committees” to identify areas in which the Studio could become more environmentally responsible. The Studio Theatre is now entirely powered by wind energy.
