Registration Policy

The Studio Theatre Acting Conservatory requires tuition to be paid in one of the following methods:
1.  Payment in full at the time of registration; or
2.  Payment of a non-refundable $100.00 registration fee for each class and/or each workshop at time of registration with balance of tuition paid at time of first class. (Exception for the Young Actors Summer Program - Please see Young Actors Summer Program tuition policy)

Registration cannot be guaranteed until the registration fee is paid.

The student is required to immediately replace registration and /or tuition payment resulting from returned checks. Replacement payment must be in the form of cash, money order, cashier’s check, or credit card.

The charge for a returned check is $25 and must be included in the replacement registration fee and/or tuition.

Students are not allowed to attend class if their tuition has not been paid. Tuition must be paid by the 2nd class.

Students are not allowed to join a class if they have missed the first two classes.
 

Class Refund Policy

In the event that a student chooses to withdraw from a class, the registration fee cannot be refunded. 

The balance of tuition paid for a class will be refunded if the student requests a refund in writing prior to or within three business days following the first class. 

 

Young Actors Summer Program Tuition Policy

The Studio Theatre Acting Conservatory requires tuition to be paid in one of the following methods:
1.  Payment in full at the time of registration (includes a non-refundable $200 registration fee for each session).
2.  Payment of a non-refundable $200 registration fee for each class or workshop at time of registration with balance of tuition paid in two equal payments - the first by May 1 and the final payment at the audition.

The registration fee is included as part of the total cost of tuition.

 

Young Actors Summer Program Refund Policy

The Studio Theatre Acting Conservatory limits the number of students in each class.

In the event that a student chooses to withdraw from a class, the registration fee ($200 for each session) is not refundable.

 

Workshop & Refund Policy

In the event that a student chooses to withdraw from a workshop, the registration fee cannot be refunded.
 
The balance of tuition paid for a workshop will be refunded if the student requests a refund in writing prior to the start of the workshop. Refunds will not be issued if the request is submitted after the workshop has begun.

 

Liability Policy

The safety and wellbeing of our students are our top priority. Like sports, acting has physical demands. Students are encouraged to consult their physicians regarding their ability to participate.

Students are expected to carry their own accident and medical insurance. The Studio Theatre assumes no liability for injuries or damages resulting from class participation.

 

Building Security and Safety Procedures

Students should not leave valuables in the student lounge or in the studios. The Studio Theatre Acting Conservatory is not responsible for lost or stolen items.  

Students are expected to learn the current entry codes for the building’s exterior doors and the interior stairwell doors.

Students should not give out the door entry codes to anyone except other current conservatory students.

To avoid being ticketed, students should observe the street parking signs. The District of Columbia’s parking reinforcement routinely monitors the area. Please note that parking on the Studio Theatre loading dock or in the alley entrance may result in ticketing and/or towing.

Students are encouraged to use good judgment when leaving the building- Walk each other to your cars- give a classmate a ride to the Metro station- Avoid leaving the building alone at night.

The area surrounding The Studio Theatre is patrolled regularly.  Students should report any suspicious person(s) to any Studio Theatre staff or directly to the police.

As a convenience, pay phones are located on the 1st and 2nd floors.

Rehearsal Space Guidelines

Students can reserve rehearsal space in Studio B, Studio D and Studio E. The sign-up sheets are located on the student bulletin board. In order to reserve space, students must physically sign up for it. The administrative office will not provide information on rehearsal space availability or sign up for any student.

Rehearsal space is available on a space-available, first-come, first-served basis.

If time is reserved directly following a class and the class runs over, that time is deducted from the student’s rehearsal.

Students may sign up for no more than 1 1/2 hour blocks. Students should include their name and phone number when signing up so that they can be reached in case of changes.

Students should be considerate to other students when reserving space. If the reserved space will not be used, students should remove their name from the sign-up sheet so that others may use that time slot.

Students must use the trashcans provided to dispose of all trash, food, cans, water bottles, etc.

Furniture is available in the P Street Lounge for students’ use in class and in rehearsal. Students may not use furniture from the student lounge or from other parts of the Theatre.

All furniture must be returned to the P Street Lounge storage area when not in use. This includes usage for rehearsal as well as for class. Students should allow time at the end of the rehearsal period to return the furniture to the P Street Lounge.

Students must use the shelves provided in the P Street Lounge to store props. Personal props should be labeled for identification. Props found on the floor will be discarded. Props provided by the Conservatory must be returned to the prop shelf after use.

In compliance with the green initiative of The Studio Theatre, students must turn off all lights when finished using the studios for rehearsal as well as for class.

Students should remember to secure their valuables. The Studio Theatre Acting Conservatory is not responsible for personal property lost or stolen.

 The Studio Theatre Acting Conservatory is not responsible for props left at the end of Final Scenes.

Lost and Found Policy

The conservatory is not responsible for students’ personal belongings. However, there is a lost and found that is kept by The Studio Theatre’s Administrative Assistant (202) 232-7267.

 

Adult Classes Program Expectations

Each student is responsible to maintain an environment of positive learning by observing and following a standard of behavior that is respectful to their instructor and to their fellow students.

Students share each others’ contact information and should exercise care and respect in the use of this information.

Due to the sequential and cumulative nature of the classes, regular attendance, punctuality, and participation are required.

Students are responsible to alert their teachers of any physical limitation that they may have as well as any medications they are taking that may have an effect of their work.

Students enrolled in acting classes must be able to participate and attend FINAL SCENES at the end of the semester.

Students may not deface or destroy any property, furniture, or facility of The Studio Theatre.

Harassment in any form, whether based on sex, gender, sexual preference or orientation, race, religion, national origin, age, or physical disability will not be tolerated.

Any student who violates the program expectations of the acting conservatory will be discharged after incurring three warnings. Students who engage in gross misconduct will be immediately and permanently discharged.

 

Young Actors Ensemble Program Expectations

Students are required to attend each class.

Students must contact their teacher if they are unable to attend class.

Students are required to be on time for each class.

Students are required to participate during class.

Students are encouraged to dress in comfortable clothing for greater freedom of movement.

Classrooms and hallways are reserved for students’ use. Family members and/or friends are invited to wait in the Atrium/ student lounge.

Students must be able to attend and participate in the Final Scenes at the end of the semester.

Discharge Policy

A student who is discharged from the program due to repeated disruptive or dangerous behavior, excessive absenteeism, or excessive lateness will not be eligible for tuition refund.
