Summer Internship Overview
The Studio Theatre’s summer intern program gives early-career theatre professionals a chance to be an active part of the fast-paced, exciting, and demanding environment of a prominent mid-sized professional theatre. The full-time program has three starting dates from mid-May to early June, and runs six to twelve weeks through August. In addition to working in their designated department alongside staff members and visiting artists, Interns work together on group projects for the theatre. Weekly seminars led by various department heads familiarize Interns with the art and operations of a professional regional theatre, the ecology of the Washington DC theatre scene, and issues relevant to the larger field. All Interns have the opportunity to attend first rehearsals, staff run-throughs (the last rehearsal before tech), and opening nights of the Studio Theatre’s performances for the 2010-2011 season. The program includes a field trip to another Washington DC theatre as well as free and discounted tickets to area performances. Summer interns also get the chance to study at The Studio Theatre Acting Conservatory at a discounted rate.
A total of 13 interns participate in the summer program in the areas of Administration, Business, Communication, Development, Education, Literary, Technical, and Production.
